The Swans are one of few teams that have had success on a regular basis in Perth winning their last 4 games at Optus Stadium with three of those against Fremantle and the latest a 48-point victory in 2024.

The Swans are struggling with injury and suspension, but looked much improved last week compared to their opening round match against Hawthorn. Fremantle, looked unpolished and not ready at either end of the field last week against Geelong, going down by 78.

Isaac Heeney has been good, without being exceptional in the opening two weeks but is predicted to step up in this clash in Perth and will be the difference in the Swans finding their feet and blasting their way to a victory by putting up their highest score of the season.

  • Sydney has won their last 3 matches at Optus Stadium.
  • 3 of the last 4 matches between Sydney and Fremantle have had a game total of over 166.5 points.
  • Both Sydney matches and Fremantle’s single match all went over 166.5 points.
  • Isaac Heeney averaged 25.1 disposals last season.

Head to Head

Both Sydney and Fremantle got a win against each other in 2024 with the trend of away team victories still in effect last season.

The Dockers got away with a 99-98 victory at the SCG in Round 16, while Sydney got up 87-39 in Round 9, with Fremantle kicking 4.15 in the match at Optus Stadium.

The away team has won the last 5 matches between Fremantle and Sydney, with 3 matches played in Perth and two in Sydney since 2022.

Fremantle were poor in their opening match in tough conditions at GMHBA Stadium. The weather was fine but with the pitch on the tighter side, the Dockers' handball first tactic that they were highly committed to in the match simply didn’t work with the space not there. Geelong pressured the Dockers and powered to a 147-69 win.

With Shai Bolton, Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters all out of the lineup against Geelong, the Fremantle attack, that left them stranded often last year, did much of the same, however, this time their backline also couldn’t do anything to stop the barrage from the Cats.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Fremantle have named an extended 26 man squad that could see 4 big inclusions come Sunday. Shai Bolton is set to make his Dockers debut at half-forward, passing a fitness test on Thursday. The former Tiger will be a straight swap for Sam Switkowski who is out with a groin injury.

Pat Voss and midfielders Neil Erasmus and Will Brodie have been named on an extended bench along with Bailey Banfield, Brodie, Heath Chapman, Erasmus, Josh Draper, Liam Reidy, Voss and Karl Worner.

Sydney were better in their second match of the season as they look to familiarise themselves with their new squad after heading into the season with serious injury concerns.

The Swans had Brisbane on the ropes, leading by 23 points in the first quarter but couldn’t hold on to get revenge in the Grand Final replay, going down by just one kick 86-82 at the SCG.

Possessions have been hard to come by for Sydney who average just 319.5 in their two matches this season which is second last in the AFL in the opening rounds. Clearances have obviously been affected by that with the Swans also sitting second last in the AFL with just 34.5 per game in their opening two.
