Ombamburamai was the first international to win The Golden Eagle in 2023 and Japan are searching for back-to-back victories in this four-year-old feature, with Ascoli Piceno (barrier 17) the early market elect for the 2024 Golden Eagle.
Japan's leading two-year-old filly in 2023 was unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile, which includes a Group 1 triumph in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies when completing a hat-trick last December.
After opening her 2024 account with runner-up finishes at Group 1 level in the Japan Guineas and NHK Mile Cup, Ascoli Piceno brought up her fourth career victory last start when successful in the Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap on September 8.
Japan will also be represented by Corazon Beat (barrier 19) who placed behind Ascoli Piceno in last year's Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, although this mare has been well held in her last two appearances and the last of those was a heavy defeat in the Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap.
Joliestar (barrier 11) was good without luck in The Everest and with her sole Group 1 triumph having come over 1600m in last year's Thousand Guineas, the rise in distance shouldn't worry the Chris Waller-trained galloper here.
Chris Waller also prepares Chrysaor (barrier 14) and the gelding has completed a tick-over trial since a second-up defeat in the Epsom Handicap, which followed a stylish return win at Flemington.
Lazzat (barrier 12) is an unbeaten French raider who made it six-from-six when breaking through at Group 1 level on August 4 and that MRC de Cheese victory was a comfortable one, with the gelding winning by three lengths.
European visitor Lake Forrest (barrier 8) is a Group 2 winning sprinter who has recorded a pair of seconds in both appearances this year and the first of those was a Group 1 placing over Royal Ascot.
This four-year-old is prepared by William Haggas and the English trainer has a terrifc record in Sydney, with nine winners (six at Rosehill) from just seventeen starters in the "Harbour City".
While Tom Kitten (barrier 2) hasn't saluted since an impressive return triumph when first-up as a gelding, the Godolphin gallopers brings strong recent form through the likes of Ceolwulf, Royal Patronage and Fangirl.
Two-time Group 1 winner Southport Tycoon (barrier 15) followed up his slick Manikato Stakes return with a third in the Sydney Stakes and he's suited out to 1500m now, as is Veight (barrier 18) who won the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes over this track/trip in March.
Ostraka (barrier 13) has won his last four starts and among those victories was the 1300m Sliver Eagle lead-up a fortnight, although he did fail in his only previous try past 1400m.
The Neasham & Archibald yard also have Port Lockroy (barrier 9), while Gary Portelli has dual representation with Encap (barrier 1) and Kintyre (barrier 3) both in the final field.
War Machine (barrier 7), Craig (barrier 5) and Skybird (barrier 16) are talented Victorian raiders who create interest, as does Stradbroke Handicap winner Stefi Magnetica (barrier 4) who was a touch disappointing in The Everest following a slashing return run.

The Golden Eagle Winners
The Golden Eagle is one of Australia's newest races, which has given a huge incentive for owners to resist allure from studs and continue racing colts into their four-year-old season.
Ran over the distance of 1500m at Rosehill Racecourse, the prizemoney is now worth $10 million and was run for the first time in 2019.
Kolding (2019), Colette (2020), I'm Thunderstruck (2021), I Wish I Win (2022) and Obamburumai (2023) have won the five editions of The Golden Eagle.
