Best Bet:
Race 4 No. 2 Qismah
It was a big debut effort at monster odds, with Qismah running the fastest last 200m of the March 5 program from Sandown and she's well placed back coming back from metro level.
She did some travelling for the Hayes yard despite not having a race start for them and with a recent city hit-out under the belt, the three-year-old has a solid platform for start two.
Qismah is from the same family as Sense Of Occasion (Group 1 winner), a galloper who relished wet ground and Pride Of Dubai progeny are also noted for their wet track abilities.
She only carries 1kg more despite dropping to country level and Blaike McDougall takes the reins on Thursday, a jockey who has a career strike-rate of 26% at Albury (82 winners).
Value Bet:
Race 6 No. 8 She's A Con
This mare was a Listed winner on Heavy ground via her last start in New Zealand and rain affected tracks are more testing across the ditch (most of her form has come on wet tracks).
Rain is predicted on Thursday and She's A Con will come right into calculations if the forecast is correct, although we haven't seen any lead-up work since she joined Paul Preusker.
Her best Australian efforts have all been on rain affected surfaces, which includes two metro placings last winter and her last outing in January was fair (ran into a progressive winner).
She's A Con will likely get over more ground as the prep wears on (last two placings have been at 2100m+), but this is a suitable fresh assignment and a testing mile gives her a sniff.
Market Mover:
Burrandana is honest, with the six-year-old having recorded three wins and seven placings from 14 starts, while he hasn't finished out of the money in his last seven outings.
He's opened the campaign with a third and a second, while Ladbrokes punters have backed Burrandana to go one better third-up ($6.00-$4.60).
Stats Say:
Local trainer Donna Scott is the leading the way at Albury, with 10 winners recorded at this track over the 12 months,
With nine acceptances, she has a big team entered on Thursday's card.
