Ascot Tips March 15
MCA Polytrack Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Too Dardy
The son of Demerit has gone well fresh in the past including when returning to action with a victory at Belmont last prep.
The pick came home over two lengths clear of his rivals when racing over 1000m on a good 4 track on that occasion and while unable to win subsequently he did deliver some good efforts in defeat.
Those efforts included a second, beaten just under three-and-a-half-lengths when racing over 1400m in a similar race to this held on a wet track at Belmont at the start of August.
The gelding has been off the track since finishing fifth there two weeks later and the drop to 1000m is no issue here given his strong record over the distance.
The selection also boasts a good record of two wins and a second from four starts on the forecast good going with barrier four a further positive for Shaun O’Donnell’s mount.
Hugh Jamieson Trophy Tips (Race 5)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Supportive
The six-year-old won first up last prep when taking out a 1000m event held on a wet surface at Belmont in July.
The pick was unable to finish better than seventh in three subsequent starts that prep and she appeared to appreciate the switch away from the city when resuming at Bunbury last month.
The daughter of Dissident kept on nicely to finish just under three lengths second when contesting a 1200m Class 5 event held on a good 4 track that day.
A return to city racing proved no issue with the mare coming close to springing a $21 surprise when racing over this course and distance at the start of this month.
The selection again raced on a good 4 track that day and she performed well in being beaten just under a length into third.
That marked a good return to metro racing and jumping from barrier seven she looks value to record her second win at this venue.
Peters Investments Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Our Mate Archie
The four-year-old ended his last prep with wins at Northam and Bunbury and having resumed with a place at Bunbury he broke through for his third win when successful second up this prep.
That success saw the gelding come home just under half-a-length clear of his rivals in a 1200m Class 5 contest held on a good 4 surface at Pinjarra Scarpside in January.
That race has produced a couple of winners and while the pick has been unable to win in three subsequent outing it’s of note that two of those have come from wide barriers.
Those wide barrier efforts include a close second having jumped from barrier ten over 1400m here next time.
The son of My Admiration’s most recent appearance saw him beaten just one-and-a-half-lengths in finishing fifth from barrier nine over 1200m here two weeks ago.
The gelding was ridden cold that day however he is usually ridden on the speed and jumping from next to the rail he looks up to providing the Steele Casey stable with a winner.
A-1 Engineering Sheila Gwynne Classic (Listed) Tips (Race 8)
Ascot Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Bonjoy
Jason Miller’s mare showed great form last season completing a four-timer when delivering a length victory in a 1600m Benchmark 72+ handicap here just over a year ago.
While the daughter of Maschino suffered a Listed race defeat when jumping at $12 from a wide barrier in the Jungle Dawn Classic here in November she has won three times subsequently.
All three of those wins have come at this venue including by a narrow margin when competing in the 1600m Listed Starstruck Classic when racing second up.
The five-year-old’s latest success saw her get home by just over half-a-length when competing in a Benchmark 84+ handicap over 1600m at the start of last month.
The pick returns from a let-up here and she has the services of regular rider Clint Johnston-Porter, on board for each of her last seven starts once more.
The mare has a good barrier in five and with underfoot conditions to suit she looks capable of conceding weight to her rivals.
