Flemington Tips March 1

Race 1 - 12:15PM TAB We're On Tips (1000m)

Best: 3. Blacklip. Shining Smile is a deserving fav, with the last start form through Tentryis standing up in the Blue Diamond, although it was a weak edition of that feature.

Blacklip is a first starter who was kept on ice despite two promising jump-outs in November and December, and he has completed two February workouts.

The son of Blue Point was strong past the line up the straight course on February 7 before producing another nice workout on February 21.

Value: 9. Marsept. From the same family as Tycoon Lil (three-time Group 1 winner) is Marsept, who worked with Blacklip in a February 21 jump-out.

The daughter of Written Tycoon won a February 14 heat under a hold and while she had to settle for second via her latest showing, that was arguably a stronger piece of work.

Team Hawkes have their juveniles ticking along nicely, with Devil Night winning the Blue Diamond and the talented West of Swindon was good in Silver Slipper.

Race 2 - 12:45PM Racing and Sports 2000 Tips (2000m)

Best: 2. Revelare. Aiming for a five-peat is Revelare, who overcame trouble to salute on February 15 and that last effort was his best performance to date.

He stays at 2000m and while this is a slight rise in grade, he beat an in-form Kings Valley in that latest triumph and that runner is in the market for a BM88 at Randwick.

By So You Think and from the same family as a Sydney Cup winner (Honor Babe), he could get over more ground in time and he's winning while still learning the caper.
Value: 14. Bur Dubai. This gelding was $6 for his Australian debut and the last of seven finish is better than it reads, where Bur Dubai was back and unsuited in a slowly run race.

He couldn't have done anymore under the circumstances (fastest last 400m of the race) and the four-year-old is suited up in trip (only European win was over 2514m).

Bur Dubai had trialled well prior to that Caulfield attempt and while a lot of his rivals are exposed/at their ceiling, he's a lightly raced horse with upside.

Race 3 - 1:20PM VOBIS Gold Comet Tips (1000m)

Best: 5. Fasuto. It's a tough race and looking turnaround his career for a new stable is Fasuto, a short course specialist who has completed two solid jump-outs in February.

His two biggest peaks have both come first-up over this distance and he's now under the care of Gavin Bedggood, who has a terrific record with these tried horses.

Blinkers coming off can be as important as the shades going on, especially being on return for a new stable, as it least suggests that Fasuto is settling in his work.

Value: 6. Perilous Fighter. He was gelded ahead of his Boxing Day return and the four-year-old was brilliant via that 1100m triumph on the Caulfield Heat circuit.

Being a gelding with a low rating, it was strange placement to then contest a Listed race, rather than work through the grades and he was strong late in that Sandown tilt.

Perilous Fighter found some trouble via a 955m dash at The Valley last time out and as an early three year-old, he placed over this track/trip when deep into the prep.

Race 4 - 1:55PM The All-Star Mile Owner Ambassador Trophy Tips (1200m)

Best: 10. Top Calibre. After being prepared by Chris Waller but not making to the races in Sydney, he joined Alexander Rae and gelding was unbeaten in his first prep.

A half-brother to Artorius (dual Group 1 winner), Top Calibre bolted in on debut at Bairnsdale before recording back-to-back Adelaide wins prior to being tipped out.

He overcame a slow start via his first intertate successand his February 10 jump-out was in a hot line-up (first three home were Samangu, Reserve Bank and Jimmysstar).

Value: 14. Empressive Enough. I'm not convinced that Empressive Enough runs a strong 1400m, with the drop in distance off a little freshen-up a positive here.

He still placed in his last seven furlong attempt and the gelding was given a solid workout to win February 19 jump-out (second and third are both stakes class three-year-old's).

We were with Empressive Enough second-up at Caulfield after a decent return in a good form race and his straight-track record is fair (has won over this track/trip).

Race 5 - 2:30PM Good Friday Appeal Plate Tips (1100m)

Best: 7. Scillato. The obvious form is with Clean Energy, who defeated Lady Shenandoah twice in her first prep and star Chris Waller filly had every chance in their last clash.

Has there been setbacks with the fav? As she missed the spring and Magic Millions, while her recent trials have been just been okay, albeit she's improved with each hit-out.

Scillato is also unbeaten from two starts (fast closing sectionals both times) and this talented three-year-old still looks untapped (laid in at Bendigo last start and still bolted in).
Value: 8. Khadime. She hasn't quite progressed after recording a stylish debut victory at Sandown last April, however, Khadime was contesting some hot races.

The Dominic Sutton-trained galloper bookended her spring with two decent straight track efforts and she ran into a very smart Treasurethe Moment when tried over 1400m.

She's completed two 800m jump-outs at Flemington ahead of this first-up assignment and wide barriers are often favourable in these straight course dashes.

Race 6 - 3:05PM The Schweppes Plate Tips (1400m)

Best: 12. Wonder Boy. A failure to round his spring prep and then a somewhat plain January return had Wonder Boy at the crossroads ahead of a Manfred Stakes tilt.

In a tactical affair and with the race shape against him, he produced arguably the best run of that Sandown event and Tropicus franked the form at Group 3 level last week.

Given the space between runs, Wonder Boy has completed two good jump-outs in February and now tuned up for a rise in trip, there's no excuses here.

Value: 17. Acid Wash. He's neither a gun fresh horse or a 1200m performer, which adds further merit to his return win at The Valley, where class got him home.

The result was settled on protest, however, given the trouble that he found at key stages, he was a deserving winner and the bigger track at Flemington looks suitable.

Acid Wash has won both prior attempts over 1400m and while the grey could be placed softer with a rating of only 72, I'd be surprised if he couldn't measure up in this.

Race 7 - 3:40PM TAB Blamey Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 10. Place Du Carrousel. She was scratched from the Futurity Stakes due to a track upgrade and that could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Place Du Carrousel.

While she had top three/four claims in that Group 1, this is a better winning set-up, with the mare more suited over a mile compared to the 1400m at Caulfield.

Also, Place Du Carrousel is superbly in under the set weights and penalties conditions, where she gets 5kg off Attrition despite having the equal-top rating in the field.

Value: 9. Poison Chalice. Following an Australia Stakes blowout, I expected a lot more from Poison Chalice last start over 1400m and he was well backed late.

It was a better performance sectionally than it was to the eye and while his soft track stats are okay on paper, they were all Soft 5/6 victories in maiden and BM64 company.

Poison Chalice is getting hard to trust, but he's been in the market multiple times via races of similar strength and perhaps being in galloping room early is the key.

Race 8 - 4:15PM Howden Australian Guineas Tips (1600m)

Best: 4. Angel Capital. With a trip to Queensland and back in his first prep, and with the colt firing in September off what was only a short break, perhaps he was looking for the paddock in that last 1600m tilt?

Trainer Clinton McDonald has times this Group 1 assignment early in the campaign, with Angel Capital second-up here after a slick Autumn Stakes resumption on February 8.

Evaporate (third in the Autumn Stakes) was then competitive via a tough run at Group 1 WFA level in the Futurity Stakes, so the fresh form reads well and the Australian Guineas looks the target.
Value: 13. Savour The Dream. It's an open race and bookies are dismissing this Queensland visitor, a consistent three-year-old who is improving and he's won his last two (both over this trip).

The Eagle Farm triumph on December 21 was quite arrogant, as Savour The Dream was back/held-up at key stages before finding an inside run and he was looked after late.

The son of Super Seth remained at 1600m on February 8 off a freshen-up and he saluted again despite giving weight to all of his rivals (runner-up carried 6.5kg less, third had 8.5g less).

Roughie: 5. Henlein. Henlein appeared forward enough fresh off his lead-up work and the market was with him for his CS Hayes Stakes resumption, but he let his supporters down with a disappointing run.

Along with respecting the first-up starting price and money for him via that key lead-up race, he also didn't handle a Soft 7 surface according to Mark Zahra and he stays aboard second-up.

Blinkers now go on Henlein, who looked one of the more promising middle-distance three-year-old's of this crop ahead of his February 15 effort and he's big odds off only one bad run.

Race 9 - 4:55PM Inglis Sprint Tips (1200m)

Best: 7. Reserve Bank. These sales restricted races often lack depth and I have no doubt that Reserve Bank has been aimed at this million-dollar sprint is a first-up target.

He's from a noted fresh yard and both of his wins have come first-up, with the latest coming on return in September prior to a narrow loss up the Flemington straight.

His recent jump-out work has been very sharp, with Reserve Bank splitting Jimmysstar and Samangu before a stylish heat win at Cranbourne on February 17.

Value: 13. El Morzillo. Connections are due for luck with El Morzillo, who has had excuses in many defeats and that includes her Inglis Millenium loss last year.

She didn't have favours after that when flashing home in the Percy Sykes Stakes, where Eneeza and Lady Of Camelot (off a Golden Slipper win) filled the quinella.

El Morzillo was strong late via her January 4 return, a race that was taken out by a smart Private Harry and Craig Williams is back aboard (has ridden her five times).

Race 10 - 5:35PM Furphy Trophy Tips (1600m)

Best: 15. Arqana. The grey is a line finder and with the fastest last 800m/600m and 400m of a BM74 that's produced three subsequent winners, her fresh effort was strong.

Arqana was scratched at the gates here a fortnight ago and she was kept up to the mark with a lovely jump-out on February 19, so the mare still looks on track.

This is a nice set-up for Arqana, as she's down in the weights at her preferred journey vs many out of form rivals with bigger imposts and they are building/looking for further.
Value: 4. Golden Crusader. His two February jump-outs were both solid, with Golden Crusader winning a 1200m hit-out before going to the line with Keats in a 1400m heat.

His most recent wins have come over further, hence the bolters odds here, but he often runs a race fresh and his only big first-up loss in Australia was on heavy ground.

Although he's a proven weight carrier, Golden Crusader still gets relief after a 2kg claim and as a natural on-speed horse, he can overcome the wide alley.
