Flemington Tips March 8

Race 1 - 12:05PM Cirka Plate Tips (1100m)

Best: 2. Gallant Son. He was spelled after a six-length romp on debut last winter and Gallant Son returned with a second as a beaten fav at The Valley.

That event was the fastest 1200m race on a card that included the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Stolli Bolli (winner) was stakes placed at her next start.

Gallant Son didn't progress in two subsequent runs and the well-bred colt (by Written Tycoon and out of Plucky Belle - Group 1 winner) arrives off two solid jump-out's.

Value: 6. Figlio D'argento. It was a stylish debut win from this three-year-old, who ran the fastest last 200m of the October 1 Tatura card when saluting over 1100m.

Figlio D'argento has been given time since failing on heavy ground at start two and both February workouts leading into this have encouraging (won the latest).

Being by D'argento and out of a Street Cry mare, he's should get over further, but the gelding has been sharp at sprint trips and he gets weight off the two favs.

Race 2 - 12:35PM Darley Ottawa Stakes Tips (1000m)

Best: 5. Elsa Of Arendelle. There's depth to this fillies sprint and in a competitive market, Gin Spirit, Enchanted By and Elsa Of Arendelle are at the top of betting.

Elsa Of Arendelle was an eye-catcher on debut, with the second-fastest last 200m of the February 21 card at Moonee Valley and the bigger track here should suit.

The main query is an inside barrier (prefer wide) but there's natural improvement to come from this juvenile and Damian Lane stays aboard for start two.
Value: 13. Prestige Snitzel. While 1000m is on the short side, as she's bred to get over more ground, Prestige Snitzel is a classy filly from we've seen at the jump-out's.

The smooth-moving daughter of Snitzel was tipped out after an October hit-out and she's looked the part with two February heat wins ahead of Saturday's debut.

Prestige Snitzel is the fourth foal from the handy mare Imposing Lass (Group 3 winner) and her dam is a full sister to Bonneval (three-time Group 1 winner).

Race 3 - 1:10PM Vale Michael Moroney Tips (1100m)

Best: 13. Mytemptation. The unbeaten Mytemptation makes his straight-track debut on return for his second prep and he moved well in a recent jump-out win.

He quickly handled the rise to metro level, with victories recorded at Caulfield Heath and Moonee Valley following Bairnsdale maiden triumph in November.

There was merit to his last win at The Valley, where he covered ground and Enver Jusufovic is a master at taking these lightly raced types through the grades.

Value: 8. Sparring. Now third-up from a decent break, Sparring shouldn't be far away and he was unlucky last start when held-up via a stronger event at Randwick.

The six-year-old got the better of Midwest in his most recent Sydney performance and that galloper franked the form with a victory at Flemington last Saturday.

While he hasn't seen the Flemington straight-course, Sparring is no stranger to Melbourne, with a pair of Moonee Valley wins included on the resume.

Race 4 - 1:45PM Furphy Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 3. Territory Express. Talent-wise, Territory Express could be a Group 1 horse, but he's his own worst enemy at the barriers and blinkers go on for his Victorian debut.

The five-year-old has been tried over more ground, but 1400m-1600m is the sweet spot and with even luck in transit, he should relish this big circuit.

He had a spin around at Cranbourne on Monday via a strong heat and Territory Express has won two of his last three fresh attempts (both over this distance).

Value: 7. Cote Atlantique. On Australian debut for trainer Henry Dwyer is Cote Atlantique, who was Listed winner in France over this trip at last European run.

Without being knocked about, the Ballarat jump-out on February 24 was a decent piece of work and all three of his career wins have come over seven furlongs.

Cote Atlantique has drawn inside of Fancify, who looks the other main on-speed influence, so the entire should be able to settle handy under Harry Coffey.

Race 5 - 2:20PM MSS Security Sires' Produce Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 13. Steel Trap. There's no rider declared for Tycoon Star and the fav has also accepted for the Todman Stakes, where Jordan Childs has the engagement.

Vinrock will likely be the market elect if Tycoon Star races in Sydney and while he was big winner on debut, his Pakenham maiden rated poorly for the meeting.

Steel Trap is a talented South Australian who bolted in first-up before covering ground in a Listed affair and on breeding, the rise to 1400m shouldn't worry her.
Value: 10. Onavuitton. The market was against Onavuitton on debut at Sandown, where the Simon Zahra-trained colt was ridden cold from a wide barrier.

He finished off well from the rear, while being by Castelvecchio and out of a Rothesay mare, the extra distance should suit on his second race day assignment.

He's from the same family as Eurozone, Miss Marierlle and Miss Vandal (Group winners), and Onavuitton can use a low draw here (led in a recent jump-out win).

Race 6 - 2:55PM TAB Australian Cup Prelude Tips (2000m)

Best: 6. Young Werther. You won't see a better seventh-of-seven jump-out then what Young Werther produced on February 21, with the gelding terrific past the line.

2000m, fresh and dry ground are three big ticks for the seven-year-old, who meets both Duke De Sessa and Gear Up better at the weights from an August 31 win.

He bolted in with an 1800m edition of the Australian Cup Prelude last year and among the classy beaten rivals in that race were Berkley Square and Fawkner Park.

Value: 5. Post Impressionist. He didn't handle the seven-day turnaround when failing as a beaten fav in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes at Rosehill last autumn.

Post Impressionist was backing up from a brilliant last-to-first Manion Cup triumph and he was spelled after three below-par efforts early in the 2024 spring.

He has completed two Cranbourne jump-outs leading into Saturday's resumption and son of Teofilio was strong late when taking out his last heat over 1550m.

Race 7 - 3:30PM The All-Star Mile Tips (1600m)

Best: 1. Mr Brightside. The nine-time Group 1 winner has contested three editions of the All-Star Mile, which includes a win in 2023 and as a $2 fav, he was second to Pride Of Jenni in 2024.

Another Wil benefitted from a softer run when defeating Mr Brightside first-up in the CF Orr Stakes and that Ciaron Maher-trained galloper is his main threat here.

It was only a narrow winning margin second-up in the Futurity Stakes, although he settled outside of a leader who dropped right out and Pericles (box-seat) was also plain.

Value: 7. Atishu. Her last win came at Group 1 level, where Atishu was successful over this track/trip via the Empire Rose Stakes and she backed that up with a second behind Via Sistina.

With decent Flemington stats (four wins and three placings from 10 starts), Atishu will have her fair share of admirers here and she was a second-up winner last autumn.

That Blamey Stakes triumph was over this track/trip and that followed a big defeat on return in the CF Orr Stakes, so there's room to improve off her Apollo Stakes run.

Race 8 - 4:10PM TAB & World Pool Kewney Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 1. Treasurethe Moment. Despite being first-up off a VRC Oaks win, Treasurethe Moment looked the class runner when resuming in the Angus Armanasco Stakes.

Punters were with the gun filly and the race was effectively over after she settled outside of the leader, with Damian Lane looking after her in the concluding stages.

I'd love to see a clash with Lady Shenandoah at some stages and while the value isn't there this time around, she's better suited here at a mile and under set weights.
Value: 4. London's Image. This WA visitor has had 10 runs this season as a three-year-old filly and four of those outings were completed in November at Ascot.

The spring highlight was at Listed level over 1400m and she showed versatility over the next few weeks, when dropping to 1200m before backing-up in the WA Guineas.

She often makes her own luck and London's Image thrives on these shorter turnarounds, with a good Melbourne debut effort at The Valley on February 28.

Race 9 - 4:50PM Yulong Newmarket Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 8. Ostraka. The son of Pariah progressed last spring, with a hat-trick to open the season and his fresh win was arrogant (circled the field and ran the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting).

While Jimmysstar won against the pattern of the day in the Oakleigh Plate, Ostraka's effort in that Group 1 was still a pass mark and that was his first anti-clockwise run.

We often see Sydney horses battle at Caulfield via their first Melbourne appearance, so a second-up spike wouldn't shock for a classy four-year-old who still has upside.

Next Best: Joliestar. She had excuses first-up as a beaten fav in the Expressway Stakes, where the Chris Waller-trained mare covered ground and it's no crime losing to a classy Magic Time.

Joliestar has won a Flemington jump-on ahead of this straight-track debut and she appeared to move well in that February 28 hit-out when defeating two handy colts.

Given her starting prices in WFA company last spring, Joliestar isn't poorly treated with similar imposts to many key Newmarket rivals, who are mostly handicappers.

Value: 4. Buenos Noches. On stable debut for Ciaron Maher is Buenos Noches and with the entire still chasing a Group 1 win for the stallion resume, the five-year-old should be ready to go fresh.

You wouldn't back him in a country maiden going off his first two summer workouts, but there were more encouraging signs via his last Cranbourne jump-out on February 24.

Two of his three victories have come first-up and he's a proven Flemington performer, with a win and five placings recorded from eight starts on the straight-course.

Race 10 - 5:30PM Herald Sun Matron Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 1. Molly Bloom. As a Group 1 winner, she's well in under set and penalties vs her own sex, with Molly Bloom arriving here off an honest return over 1400m.

Along with getting a little weight swing on Wrote To Arataki from that February 15 clash, the daughter of Ace High is also the better suited of that pair at 1600m.

Molly Bloom failed to deliver following an unlucky Australian debut last May, but she looks in better touch this campaign and the mare finds a winnable race here.
Value: 11. Alma Rise. This four-year-old isn't well suited under the conditions, given she's a 77-rater, although Alma Rise is the least exposed runner in the field.

The four-year-old has impressed in two campaigns, with three wins and three seconds from seven appearances overall, but this is her toughest ask to date.

She was a second and third-up winner in spring, while the fresh form through Kingswood reads well, with that galloper beating Berkeley Square at his next start.
