Randwick Tips March 8

Race 1 - 12:20PM Midway Handicap Tips (1600m)

Best: 7. Pocketing. I like a progressive late season three-year-old in a Midway and Pocketing is ideally placed up to a mile, while a bigger track is another positive.

He's only finished out of the money once, which was a Midway failure two starts back as a short fav and there were genuine excuses (cardiac arrhythmia).

With the fastest last 800m/600m/400m and 200m of a 1400m Rosehill BM72 on February 26, Pocketing looks back on track and blinkers now go on.
Value: 8. Hell's Itch. He won two of three outings via a short winter campaign last year, which includes a comfortable third-up victory when stepping to 1500m.

Hell's Itch found 1200m a touch sharp via his summer return, but that fresh effort was a pass mark and he was only getting warm late at Rosehill second-up.

Now from a low draw, Alysha Collett can be more positive on Hell's Itch this time around and he's another who looks better placed on a bigger circuit.

Race 2 - 12:55PM Jericho Group Fireball Stakes Tips (1100m)

Best: 3. Zeitung. It's a competitive race, where the three market elects are all first-up and that includes Zeitung, who has trialled up well in two February heats.

She did prove her good track credentials in a Vanity Stakes win last spring, however, the Godolphin filly has been more effective on rain affected ground.

On soft ground, Zeitung was a first-up winner last campaign over this distance and with a fast tempo predicted, she can camp off them and launch late.

Value: 1. Perspiration. This Ciaron Maher-trained colt has been sighted in any public workouts since winning the Heritage Stakes last September over this trip.

That Listed event was at Rosehill, where Perspiration was slow out and after settling at the rea, he rounded them up (fastest last 400m and 200m of the card).

Perspiration has been well held in two appearances on good tracks, which includes a big defeat first-up in August before bouncing back on a Soft 6.

Race 3 - 1:30PM Petaluma Reisling Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 2. Inkaruna. She landed the cash for us on debut in the Chairman's Stakes and interestingly, Inkaruna has been kept on ice since that triumph.

That Sandown form through Tentyris has stacked up, with that galloper dead-heating with Shining Smile (won last week) before just missing in the Blue Diamond.

The fourth foal from Ravi (Group 3 winner), Inkaruna moved well in a Rosehill trial on February 18 and she has enough tactical speed to settle handy.

Value: 5. Wisnierska. Her Newcastle debut form through The Magic Man reads well, with that colt subsequently placing behind Rivellino and Wodeton.

Wisnierska was brave following her provincial breakthrough, as she covered ground at start two and there was money for her ahead of that Rosehill attempt.

Although she's only campaigned over 900m and 1000m, this youngster will likely get over more ground and she did trial well at Hawkesbury last month.

Race 4 - 2:05PM Darley Todman Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 5. Wodeton. The Golden Slipper fav lost no admirers despite losing the Silver Slipper on February 22, where the colt stuck to the task after covering ground.

Wodeton gets J-Mac back in the saddle here, with the champion hoop having steered the Chris Waller-trained juvenile to a brilliant debut win in January.

He did get through a Soft 7 track in that first race day appearance and after drawing out via his last event, Wodeton now has barrier four in a field of 12.

Value: 10. Buffalo. Although his breeding points firmly towards the sprinting caper, Buffalo gives the impression that he'll furnish as the distances increase.

The gelding was a good thing beaten in the Max Lees Classic on debut last November and he was sent out at long odds for his Silver Slipper resumption.

Buffalo recorded the fastest last 200m of that key lead-up race, where he was strong past the line over 1100m and he should be suited by the extra 100m here.

Race 5 - 2:40PM Mostyncopper Aspiration Quality Tips (1600m)

Best: 7. It's A Knockout. It's a strange race, with the two class runners up in the weights (Hinged and Rumbled Again) and they were both plain first-up.

Ciaron Maher may have eyed this off to get black-type with It's A Knockout, a lightly raced four-year-old who has two wins and two seconds from four starts.

The daughter of Dundeel is down in the weights for this second-up assignment, where the mare is suited up to 1600m and she'll roll forward from out wide.
Value: 4. Genzano. There's a platform for a third-up spike on Saturday Genzano, with a fast-run second-up event topping her off nicely for this 1600m tilt.

She rounded her second campaign with a winning hat-trick and the highlight came in the Group 3 Spring Stakes, where she was specked at big odds.

Genzano is building fitness following a decent spell (didn't come up last prep) and she improved last start after running into dominant winner on return.

Race 6 - 3:15PM Schweppes Challenge Stakes Tips (1000m)

Best: 10. Kimochi. 1000m looks the obvious query for Kimochi, as she's never contested a race below 1100m, but the Gary Portelli-trained galloper is versatile.

The four-year-old is very honest and she was consistent throughout her 2024 spring campaign, having bookended that prep with stakes wins.

She didn't run a mile, but Kimochi cashed in via the Sir Rupert Clarke before a spell and that race has produced two Group 1 winners (Another Wil and Jimmysstar).

Value: 2. Uncommon James. He was one of the more promising sprinters in the country at one stage, with his highlight coming via an Oakleigh Plate victory.

Uncommon James hasn't saluted since that Group 1 success just over two years ago, but there's still been a string of competitive performances.

Among the better references was a Group 1 third behind Imperatriz and Asfoora (first-up), and his best effort last campaign was the return run in The Galaxy.

Race 7 - 3:50PM The Agency Randwick Guineas Tips (1600m)

Best: 2. Swiftfalcon. Swiftfalcon caught the eye in the Hobartville Stakes, where the Team Hawkes-trained galloper came from the rear (race-fastest closing sectionals and fastest last 600m of the meeting).

He was an impressive second-up winner over the Randwick Mile in October, with that Dulcify Stakes triumph completing a hat-trick and he was a heavy track winner last June.

He's never drawn softly over suitable distances, with wide alleys throughout spring and via his recent return, so there's more options early from barrier five on Saturday.
Next Best: 3. Linebacker. Condition gave out late after taking up the lead in the Eskimo Prince Stakes, but Linebacker also went too slow in that fresh outing, which was no surprise given he was only first-up.

The market wanted to be with him in the Hobartville Stakes, where the son of Super Seth was a heavily backed second fav and it was a pass mark despite being well held in the end.

Now with two runs under the belt and with this seemingly the target race, expect a more aggressive steer on Linebacker third-up, who gets the services of an in-form Zac Lloyd.

Value: 6. Depth Of Character. With a stylish debut victory and a first prep that culminated with a comfortable Listed win at start three, Depth Of Character showed plenty of promise early.

He then never came up via a short spring campaign as an early three-year-old and as a result, connections opted to geld the three-year-old ahead of his 2025 resumption.

Depth Of Character performed well first-up at bolters odds, where he was thrown in the deep and there were excuses last start at Warwick Farm (held-up).

Race 8 - 4:30PM Toyota Forklifts Canterbury Stakes Tips (1300m)

Best: 10. Magic Time. She overcame trouble to salute first-up  and the six-time stakes winner is aiming for her third Group 1 victory in the 2025 Canterbury Stakes.

Magic Time has needed a run or two to get warm early in recent campaigns, but her lead-up work prior to her February 15 return was sharp and she looks in great touch.

The prospect of rain shouldn't hurt her chances, as the daughter of Hellbent is a two-time winner on Heavy ground and both of those victories were at Randwick.

Next Best: Sunshine In Paris. The five-year-old has an excellent first-up record, with three wins and she was terrific via her only fresh loss, where the mare was runner-up in The Galaxy.

She was working home in the inferior going on last year's Golden Slipper Day card, so Sunshine In Paris could easily be undefeated fresh and she's a dual Group 1 winner.

The last of her feature victories was in the Champions Sprint and she bookended her last campaign, having recorded a slick first-up win in the Sheraco Stakes.

Value: 7. Celestial Legend. He was the star three-year-old last autumn, with Celestial Legend recording a hat-trick and the last two of those were at Group 1 level (both at Randwick).

While he wasn't bad in his first and second-up performances, the son of Dundeel wasn't the same horse last spring and he was tipped out after the King Charles III Stakes.

A testing 1300m brings Celestial Legend further it, as he's a strong miler who is proven on all surfaces and blinkers are back on (weren't applied in two decent trials).

Race 9 - 5:10PM Tokyo City Keiba Randwick City Stakes Tips (2000m)

Best: 7. Zechariah. One of the most open races on this Randwick program is the penultimate and Zechariah has some claims off a fair return performance.

We were with the Chris Waller-trained galloper at long odds in the Parramatta Cup and some freshness being knocked out will only help his chances (he was racing keenly).

Zechariah showed enough in his first Australian prep and he often settled on the speed when campaigning in Europe, so they can take advantage of a kinder draw.
Value: 13. Almania. With no prior first-up wins, nothing was expected fresh in the Wyong feature on January 11 and he covered ground in that fresh run.

He wasn't disgraced in the return and while there's ground to make up on Our Anchorage from their January 25 clash, Almania has a big weight swing on the fav.

The 2024 Canberra Cup winner is back up in distance following a mile showing in Brisbane and he's one of the few who could be peaking for this.

Race 10 - 5:50PM Hkjc World Pool Wenona Girl Quality Tips (1200m)

Best: 13. Outback Miss. While this is a decent step up from a Canterbury BM72, any horse that puts a three-length gap on Nadal is a stakes class operator.

Spelled after going two-from-two in her first prep, Outback Miss didn't come up in a short campaign early last year, but the four-year-old has turned it around.

She's been produced fresh in both summer runs, which includes a Heavy 8 romp and she then recorded her first win on a good ground (fastest closing sectionals of the card).

Value: 2. Arctic Glamour. With any intent, Arctic Glamour would've won the Group 2 Missile Stakes fresh last prep and that slashing effort was over this track/trip.

The daughter of Frosted has an odds-on Listed win vs Joliestar and while there's been a subsequent drought, there's also been some strange placements.

Arctic Glamour will best aimed in the 1200m-1400m range, especially in these restricted mare's events and this is a nice starting point for her autumn prep.
