Rosehill Tips March 15
Race 1 - 12:30PM Midway Handicap Tips (1200m)
Best: 1. Salisano. She led throughout to beat Sweysive first-up at Canterbury and that form stood-up well, with Sweysive winning his next four starts.
Salisano pulled-up lame second-up and following an honest third-up effort, the five-year-old gave a decent sight last start and she's now drops in grade to a Midway.
The mare wasn't far off Lady Boss in her last attempt, who brings decent form through Bunker Hut (85-rater) and a 3kg claim sees Salisano remain at 58kg.
Value: 6. Glounthaune. A Group 3 winner in Ireland, Glounthaune was disappointing under Bjorn Baker, but he still accrued four metro placings for the old yard.
His two summer trials suggests that Gregory Hickman has the gelding ticking over nicely and while 1100m was too sharp, he was strong late in his fresh tilt.
Glounthaune ran the fastest last 600m and second-fastest last 400m of the February 26 card from Rosehill, while he's capable of settling closer from gate one.
Race 2 - 1:05PM Bisley Workwear Handicap Tips (1900m)
Best: 9. King Of Thunder. The set-up isn't exactly ideal, with King Of Thunder 1400m-1900m second-up, however, he's better suited over these longer trips.
Also, I suspect that the son of Tivaci could be the best horse to come from this race and his March 5 return at Warwick Farm was a little better than it reads.
He showed promise last year, with a maiden romp before being freshened-up for a Victoria Derby path and he only just missed in the Moonee Valley Vase.
Value: 1. Lincoln Rocks. The kiwi was consistent throughout his first Australian campaign, with three wins and two placings from his first five runs Down Under.
It was end-of-prep run, Lincoln Rocks still wasn't disgraced in a September BM88 over this track/trip and he was second fav in what was a stronger race than this.
He was never in contention fresh, however, the extra trip and class drop are two big ticks, while that race has produced a recent Group 3 winner (Sandpaper).
Race 3 - 1:40PM TAB Pago Pago Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 8. State Visit. Open race, but a watch for juvenile features moving forward, as any of these could jump out of the ground and be Sires'/Champagne hopes.
State Visit was an impressive debut winner at Canterbury, where the colt overcame trouble from off the speed in a fast-run race (fastest last 200m of the card).
He's the first foal out of the Celebrity Queen (Oakleigh Plate winner) and there's natural improvement to come with this Ciaron Maher-trained youngster.
Value: 11. Dusty Bay. An interesting runner is Dusty Bay, who ran fair time for the class/meeting when recording a five-length debut romp at Grafton.
He beat a useful stablemate (Titanium Miss) in a trial leading into his first assignment and as one of the main on-speed influences, he's expected to roll across.
The "inferior form" has stood up in Sydney, with Shaggy a country-based winner and despite all the Blue Diamond knocks, Tentyris and Tempted both came from that race.
Race 4 - 2:15PM Racing And Sports Magic Night Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 5. Strada Varenna. This looks a fair bit weaker than the boys (Pago Pago Stakes) and it could be right time/right place for this daughter of Street Boss.
Strada Varenna is a strong filly who is out of a Group 2 winning mare in Varenna Miss, with the dam a sibling to Comin' Through and Criterion (Group 1 winners).
It was a professional debut victory from Strada Varenna, who worked early to lead from a wide gate at Canterbury and she then dashed away for a soft win.
Value: 9. Dream Side. With Dream Out being out of an 1800m stakes-winning Street Cry mare, she's bred to come into her own over a little more ground.
Her trials were just fair, while the market was against the filly for her Canterbury debut on February 7 and with a better draw, she arguably wins that 1100m event.
That winner (Marhoona) was runner-up last Saturday when splitting Tempted (second fav for Golden Slipper) and Inkaruna (Group 3 winner) in the Reisling Stakes.
Race 5 - 2:50PM Asahi Super Dry Sky High Stakes Tips (2000m)
Best: 1. Lindermann. All eyes will be on the resuming Vauban, especially the yard watchers given his poor parades ahead of two Melbourne Cup failures.
While the late market needs to be respected with Vauban, Lindermann has to be the straight-bat play now, with the five-year-old well placed third-up at 2000m.
He's bringing the best WFA form and the five-year-old has been terrific in both runs vs Via Sistina and Fangirl, while he bolted in with this race third-up last year.
Value: 6. Kinesiology. He was spruiked ahead of his Australian debut and after seemingly travelling well, that Group 3 Queen Elizabeth effort was a plain one.
The Chris Waller-trained import has been ticking over fairly well this prep and with a 1900m run under the belt, Kinesiology shouldn't be far away now.
This is a harder than what he's been contesting, but he'll need to perform well here to warrant a look at the Tancred Stakes, which is his autumn target.
Race 6 - 3:25PM Chandon Phar Lap Stakes Tips (1500m)
Best: 12. Declichy Boulevard. Chris Waller has a terrific record in the Phar Lap Stakes, with champion trainer preparing seven of the last ten winners of this race.
There's been a few champions among those (Winx and Verry Elleegant) and of his four runners in this year's edition, Declichy Boulevard gets the nod.
She's perhaps not as genuine as Lazzura, but Declichy Boulevard has the stablemate covered talent-wise and she should've finished third in the Surround Stakes.
Value: 10. Real Class. She won two of four starts in New Zealand, which includes a 2000m Group 2 triumph on New Year's Day before joining Chris Waller.
While a Vinery/Oaks path looks the main plan, Real Class lived up to her name in a recent Warwick Farm trial and that hit-out suggests that she can run well fresh.
There was plenty to like in her last triumph across the ditch, where the three-year-old sustained a wide and early move in a muddling affair.
Race 7 - 4:00PM Ikon Services Maurice McCarten Stakes Tips (1100m)
Best: 7. Pisanello. This is another step up for Pisanello, who went three-from-three over the spring and he improved out of sight as an early season four-year-old.
After working through some lower benchmarks last prep, he now finds himself down in the weights for this Group 3 attempt and a strong speed will suit.
Pisanello was a little keen in his first summer trial, but that was mainly because of the tight grip that he was under and he again travelled strongly to win his latest.
Value: 3. Felix Majestic. He has no first-up form to his name, which looks the main knock for Felix Majestic, however, those stats don't tell the full story.
The gelding simply doesn't go on wet ground and his three biggest return flops have all been on soft/heavy tracks (nice effort via his only good track display).
He'll get over a little further as the campaign wears on, but Felix Majestic is effective over sprint trips and he bolted in with a Warwick Farm trial on March 3.
Race 8 - 4:35PM Coolmore Classic Tips (1500m)
Best: 4. Lady Shenandoah. A dominant winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes winner at start four prior to a spell, the three-year-old opened her 2025 account with an impressive fresh victory in the Light Fingers Stakes.
While it was narrow victory as a $1.30 fav when taking out the Group 1 Surround Stakes on March 1, her fighting qualities were evident late and she was also a touch flat second-up.
Although there's a wide alley to overcome, the main on-speed influences are drawn either side of her (Grinzinger Belle and Lady of Camelot), so J-Mac can follow them across early.
Next Best: 7. Coeur Volante. She was a beaten fav when fourth via her only third-up tilt (Thousand Guineas) and the first three home there (Joliestar, Kimochi and Skybird) have all subsequently won at Group 1 level.
Blinkers on for the Mannerism Stakes sparked the four-year-old up, with the daughter of Proisir recording a dominant four-length win and she draws softly for this assignment.
With the tragic recent passing of the legendary Mike Moroney, there'll be no more popular winner should Coeur Volante prevail and she's a genuine contender at a decent quote.
Value: 3. Alsephina. The Williams yard was happy to treat the first-up effort as a trial and that's the right way to play it, as Alsephina was completely unsuited in a race that was dictated by Amelia's Jewel.
The Group 1-placed mare will also benefit from her first clockwise appearance and she improved sharply second-up last campaign when winning over a similar journey.
While she drew out in the Stocks Stakes, Blake Shinn was able to put her into the race via that Moonee Valley Group 2 and with a kind alley here, that task will be made easier.
Race 9 - 5:15PM Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes Tips (1500m)
Best: 10. Von Hauke. In one of the more competitive races on Saturday's Rosehill program, I could entertain an each-way speck on Von Hauke at a huge price.
I'm not convinced that Cliff Brown has got to bottom of him and after settling back, his Moonee Valley return was sound (second-fastest last 200m of the race).
Von Hauke was a Group 3 winner second-up last autumn and that form through Amenable reads well, with that runner Group 1 placed two starts later.
Value: 8. New Endeavour. With a winning double on last Saturday's card, which includes a Group 1 success, things could be turning around for Waterhouse & Bott.
The last prep from New Endeavour fell away late, but he did come to hand early in the spring and his best run was recorded over this track/trip second-up.
New Endeavour just missed over 2000m via the Group 1 Doomben Cup last May, but his better form has otherwise come around this distance range.
Race 10 - 5:55PM Quayclean Handicap Tips (1400m)
Best: 9. Harlem Queen. Private Harry is the current stable star for Nathan Doyle, but don't dismiss Harlem Queen as a genuine contender for that title.
I've always had plenty of time for this filly and she'll be better aimed at middle-distance races this prep, as 2000m-2500m last time in took away her brilliance.
Harlem Queen caught the eye behind Private Harry in her last trial and with J-Mac on for this 1400m return, class can get her home if there's no big on-speed bias.
Value: 2. Super Strike. As far as absolute blowout chances are concerned, Super Strike might be the best $100+ chance going around anywhere this Saturday.
The two lead-up trials have been fine, with a quiet hit-out completed at Rosehill before working home in his latest and blinkers go back on for race day.
Wet tracks didn't suit early last prep and he was off a longer break, but he's proven in this grade with much bigger imposts than 55.5kg and the fresh stats are decent.
Rosehill Quaddie Tips:
Race 7: 3,4,5,7,11
Race 8: 1,2,3,4,7,14
Race 9: 1,4,8,10,11
