Bunbury Roughie Tip

Race 8 No. 16 Weeraechoux

We were with Weeraechoux last Saturday at Ascot and while he couldn't finish in the money there, it was another solid performance from the gelding.

He simply had too much work to do in a leader-dominated race, where the four-year-old was back and in traffic, but he was good late in restricted room.

Although he's up in class to contest a Bunbury Cup, Weeraechoux does get right down in the weights, now with 6kg less from last week's assignment.

He was Listed winner when deep into his last prep and now in a big feature field, where there should be more tempo, he may have found his right set-up.

Flemington Roughie Tip

Race 9 No. 8 Ostraka

He progressed last spring, with a hat-trick to open the season and his fresh win was arrogant (circled the field and ran the fastest closing sectionals of the card).

While Jimmysstar won against the pattern of the day, Ostraka's effort Oakleigh Plate effort was still a pass mark and that was his first anti-clockwise run.

We often see Sydney horses battle at Caulfield via their first Melbourne appearance, so a second-up spike here wouldn't shock for the four-year-old.

He was gelded ahead of his last three-year-old campaign and while a trip away to Queensland over winter brought him on, Ostraka still has some upside.

Murray Bridge Roughie Tip

Race 9 No. 8 Enciphering

Enciphering hasn't quite progressed after showing potential in his three-year-old season, but he's only a four-year-old and he finds a suitable first-up race.

He was brave without luck in a stronger event when resuming last campaign, where the gelding covered ground on the speed over this 1400m journey.

The Murray Bridge local broke through over this track/trip at start three and with the middle/wider lanes often favoured on this circuit, he does draw well.

He'll likely get over more ground as this prep wears on, but seven furlongs is a good starting point for Enciphering and he has the class to figure in this.

Randwick Roughie Tip

Race 9 No. 7 Zechariah

We were with the Chris Waller-trained galloper in the Parramatta Cup and some freshness being knocked out will only help (he was racing keenly).

Zechariah showed enough in his first Australian prep and he often settled on the speed when campaigning in Europe, so they can take advantage of a kinder draw.

He's been effective in all conditions, with a soft track win overseas and his best performance Down Under was a runner-up finish on heavy ground last time in.

Connections are looking towards bigger races over the autumn, but with more favours and improvement from the return, Zechariah still has claims second-up.
