Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 5 No. 8 Charino

Back on the fresh side and a drop in distance are both positives for Charino, who took out the Max Simmonds Stakes over this track/trip at start two.

West Star (second) franked that form with a Listed win via his next outing and Charino arrived there off a nice debut, where a lack of experience told.

The Brett Pope-trained galloper has been given time since failing in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes and keeping him to shorter trips could be the key.

Charino wasn't knocked about in a March 10 trial behind a handy Petula, a Listed winner who was spelled after a midfield finish in last year's Quokka.

Eagle Farm Roughie Tip

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 8 No. 10 Fistsoffury

We often see a Queensland sea change turnaround an ex-southerner and Fistsoffury is on stable debut for the Stuart Kendrick (trialled up well).

New connections forked out $95,000 for the son of Dundeel and while he failed in three runs last year, this galloper showed plenty of potential early.

The debut victory at Pakenham was brilliant, with that 1200m performance warranting a VRC Sires' placement and he finished fourth in that Group 2.

12 months ago, Fistsoffury made light work of the subsequent Queensland Oaks winner and prior to that, he was runner-up behind Another Wil.

Moonee Valley Roughie Tip

Moonee Valley Roughie - Race 8 No. 12 Charisse

It's an even bunch and form through the Tesio Stakes last spring, along with the recent running of the Matron Stakes reflect that.

Charisse is an underrated mare among this group and with blinkers going on for the Sunline Stakes, she could be the one peaking here fourth-up.

She ran the fastest closing sectionals of the Matron Stakes and despite being bolters odds in Tesio, Charisse would've gone very close with a kinder draw.

The five-year-old was ridden very cold in her last attempt and that may have proved the difference in the end (are they more positive this time?).

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 8 Maxildo

The Oakbank resumption was much better than it reads, with Maxildo working home in restricted room over a trip that was short of his best.

Being by Fiorente and out of a city winning miler, this lightly raced four-year-old is bred to get over ground and the extra 300m second-up is a tick.

Maxildo progressed as his first campaign wore on, with a big breakthrough victory at start three and he then only just missed in a metro BM68.

He moved well in a quiet tick-over trial on March 14 and Maxildo has shown early speed over longer distances, so he can settle closer second-up.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 10. No. 10 Austmarr

She's a big mare, who looks to carry plenty of condition, so there's clearly room to improve fitness-wise now third-up from a long spell.

Austmarr was competitive in both February efforts and while the beaten margins don't necessarily reflect it, her last run was an improvement.

Godolphin have a decent record in this race (two of the last three winners), while Austmarr found her best touch third and fourth-up last campaign.

Her last triumph was a dominant all-the-way success at Listed level and now with a fitness base, they can press on early and look for the lead.
