Canterbury Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Titans, Round 2 2025 - Expert Prediction

The Gold Coast will be in with a shot to produce another Round 2 upset and will cover the 7.5-point line as the underdog against Canterbury on Sunday.

The Titans will play their first game of the season after the Round 1 bye and their potential will shine through in their opening outing.

The Coast have an origin-class forward pack and one of the quickest backlines in the comp and they will put themselves in with a chance, if they can simply manage the game and make the right decisions late in the tackle count.

Canterbury had a decent win against the Dragons in their opening match of the season, however, I was not impressed by their form and predict that the Titans fully-fit forward pack will outmuscle them in the middle and keep this game close.

Trends point t a low-scoring match that hits the under, but one thing is for sure and that is that the right wing defence of the Bulldogs is in for another tough outing with the 2024 leading tryscorer, Alofiana Khan-Pereira blasttng down the left for the Titans.

  • The Titans covered 68% of the time as the underdog last season.
  • The last 7 Titans away games have gone under the game total.
  • 5 of the last 8 Canterbury home games have gone under the game total.
  • Bulldogs conceded 3 tries last week to left winger, Tuipulotu of the Dragons making 9 tries in their last 5 games to that position.

Head to Head

Canterbury beat the Titans 32-0 last season at Belmore Stadium, dominating all match.

The Bulldogs have won 3 of the last 4 matches, however, the Titans have won 4 of the last 7 games against Canterbury.

The Bulldogs got away with a 28-20 victory over the Dragons after leading comfortably at 16-6 at half time. Canterbury looked sharp in attack early while their defence was almost impenetrable in the first half, just as it was in 2024.

However, it was a different story in the second half with the Dragons peppering the right side of the Bulldogs defence which opened up on multiple occasions.

Considering that Canterbury had 66% of the territory in both halves with all of the go-forward, winning the run mere battle by 320m, there defence still leaked 7 linebreaks and they found themselves in a much tighter game than they should have.

The Gold Coast will play their first game of the season after a Round 1 bye.

There are plenty of tipsters picking the Titans to make the eight this season and you can see why when looking at their squad. They have a top-class forward pack that is filled with Origin players like Tino and Mo Fotuaika and has been bolstered by the addition of Reagen Campbell-Gillard.

The Titans backline could also be the fastest in the NRL. Alofiana Khan-Pereira was the leading tryscorer in the NRL in 2024  and he will have Keano Kini working in around the back with Jojo Fifita on the other wing, not to mention a fully-fit Philip Sami.

The question for the Coast will be who controls the game, with Kieren Foran out for a few months. Can Cambell and/or Brimson manage the game and make the right 6th tackle options?

Gold Coast Titans Team News

The Gold Coast will start the season with a healthy forward pack for the first time in years, ith new recruit Reagan Campbell-Gillard joining Mo Fotuaika in the front row with captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui locking the scrum after returning from a knee injury that saw him miss most of the 2024 season.

A new-look halves arrives on the Gold Coast but with familiar faces. A.J. Brimson will play in the No. 6 with Jayden Campbell as the halfback, while Keano Kini has locked in his spot at fullback.
