Racing NSW have announced a prizemoney increase for The Golden Eagle from 2022, with this Rosehill feature now worth $8 million in total, up from $7.5 million.
Run over 1500m, the Golden Eagle is restricted to four-year-old gallopers and was partly designed in a lure to keep the last season three-year-old's on the track and not heading to stud.
A good initiative of The Golden Eagle is that 10% of all prizemoney is donated to charity, with connections nominating a charity for their respective runner.
In 2021, Camp Quality, the nominated charity of the winner I’m Thunderstruck, received $410,000 towards its much-needed services and programs that support children, who are dealing with their own cancer diagnosis, or the diagnosis of someone they love.
A press release today from Racing NSW detailed the following from Racing NSW Chairman Mr Russell Balding AO.
“The Golden Eagle has been a stunning success both on the track and through wagering, with this increase reflecting what an instant hit the race has been,” said Balding.
"The race has clearly resonated with the racing public and has cemented its place in our expanded Sydney Spring Carnival.”
The Golden Eagle will enter its fourth year in 2022, with Kolding (2019), Colette (2020) and I'm Thunderstruck (2021) the three winners to date.
