Inter will be looking to put on another defensive masterclass when they go on the road to face Dutch giants Feyenoord in the first leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday.

Feyenoord are full of confidence having knocked out AC Milan in the R32 and now they will be aiming to become just the fourth club in UCL history to knock out both Milan clubs in the same competition. However, I don't see it happening. Inter are a much stronger outfit and their defence has been almost impenetrable this competition. Indeed, Inter have only conceded in eight Champions League games this term, winning six of those fixtures. I'm backing another shut-out victory for the Serie A champions here.

Head To Head

This will be the first meeting between the clubs since the 2002 UEFA Cup semi-finals, when Feyenoord advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

It's been an incredible Champions League campaign for Feyenoord, with the team advancing into the R16 of this competition for the first time in 50 years.

It was looking dicey when - after taking the scalp of Bayern Munich - Feyenoord were thumped 6-1 on the final matchday of the league phase by Lille.

However, Feyenoord bounced back strongly with a superb showing over two legs against AC Milan in the R16, progressing 2-1 on aggregate.

Feyenood aren't having a great season in the Dutch Eredivisie - they are currently in fourth spot on the ladder, 16 points behind leaders Ajax and coming off a 0-0 stalemate in their last outing against Nijmegen.

Inter Form

Inter cruised into the Champions League R16, winning six of their eight games and conceding just one goal in the process. It doesn't get much more dominant than that.

However, Inter have been shaky lately in the Serie A - they still hold a slender one-point lead at the top of the table over Napoli, but two of their three defeats in the league have come in their last five games, going down against Fiorentina and Juventus.

Runners-up to Man City in the Champions League final a couple of years ago, Inter have a strong record in this competition, losing just three of their last 23 matches.

Additionally, Inter are unbeaten in their last 11 European games against Dutch clubs, winning seven.

Verdict

Feyenoord v Inter

Inter certainly aren't at their best right now, but I'm backing them to rise to the occasion here and shut out Feyenoord on their own turf.

Inter's defence has been rock solid all competition and they can frustrate a Feyenoord side that will be playing under a lot of pressure and expectation at home.
