PSG vs Liverpool Tips & Predictions
An intriguing showdown awaits in the Champions League R16 as PSG and Liverpool collide in the first leg in Paris on Wednesday night.

These two teams are flying high at the top of their respective domestic leagues and will be determined to keep their continental trophy aspirations alive here. For me, Liverpool hold all the value as underdogs in this first leg. PSG repeatedly stumble in big Champions League matches and although they are a new-look and more well-oiled team this time around, I still don't fancy them to progress against the genuine elite teams. Liverpool have been on fire basically all season and whenever Arne Slot decides to play his first team, the Reds generally win. Liverpool have won 16 of their last 22 away games in the Champions League and can bring a lead back to Anfield next week.
- Liverpool won seven of their eight UCL league phase games
- Liverpool have won 16 of their last 22 UCL away games
- PSG have lost five of their last eight games vs English teams
- PSG have scored in their last 20 games
Head To Head
These two teams last met in the 2018 Champions League, with both winning at home (PSG 2-1 and Liverpool 3-2).
PSG Form
Are PSG learning their lesson? After investing heavily in superstar players over the last few years, the French giants have focused more on putting together a good team and it's paying dividends on the field so far.
After a shocking start to their Champions League campaign, PSG secured their spot in the R32 with a brilliant come-from-behind 4-2 win over Man City before crushing Stuttgart 4-1 on the last matchday.
PSG proceeded to demolish fellow French side Brest in the R32, prevailing 10-0 on aggregate. Luis Enrique's side are now unbeaten in their last 22 games in all competitions, winning 19 - including a most-recent 4-1 victory over Lille this past weekend.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool look set to cakewalk the Premier League as they enjoy a 13-point buffer over Arsenal, while they couldn't have been much more convincing in the Champions League so far.
Indeed, Liverpool won seven of their eight games in the league phase, only losing to PSV as Slot opted to field a team of fringe players with qualification already ensured.
Slot learnt a valuable lesson after his second-string side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Plymouth, but that just means Liverpool can focus almost entirely on the Champions League, with the EPL under control.
Liverpool have been rock solid in the league over the last week or so, registering comfortable 2-0 wins over Man City and Newcastle.
Verdict
I'm keen to back Liverpool here - PSG consistently slip up against big teams in the UCL knockout stages and I'm not convinced they can match it with the Reds at home.
Liverpool have won 16 of their last 22 away games in this competition and have barely lost games with their full-strength team this season - they are a good value bet as underdogs.
