Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's the biggest match of the 2025 Australian Open to date as 10-time champion Novak Djokovic comes up against 21-year-old four-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Easily worthy of the final, I'm backing a five-set classic between these two champions who are at different ends of their careers. Alcaraz is attempting to make history by becoming the youngest man in history to win all four Grand Slams, while Djokovic continues his pursuit of a record-extending 25th major title and 11th Australian Open crown. Alcaraz is looking to break new ground by making the AO semi-finals for the first time, but he's never defeated Djokovic on a hardcourt. However, the Serbian is obviously not at the peak of his powers and the invincible dominant force he once was on these courts.

It promises to be a cracking contest and electrifying atmosphere inside Rod Laver Arena. I'm backing Over 40.5 total games, Djokovic to win Over 19.5 total games and an Alcaraz victory in five sets as our three main bets for this quarter-final blockbuster.

Head To Head

Djokovic currently leads 4-3. The pair squared off twice in 2024 in huge finals, with Alcaraz dismantling Djokovic in the Wimbledon final and the Serbian returning serve in an emotional Paris Olympics gold medal match. Djokovic leads 2-0 on hardcourt, including winning one of the best matches in recent history in the 2023 Cincinnati final in a deciding set tiebreak.

Carlos Alcaraz Form

It's been a near-flawless Australian Open campaign for Alcaraz as the Spaniard continues his quest to become the youngest man in history to secure all four major titles, with the AO the only trophy missing from his cabinet at 21 years of age.

Opting not to play a lead-in tournament has proven a good move, with Alcaraz hitting the ground running in Melbourne.

He couldn't be more fresh really - Alcaraz eased past Alexander Shevchenko and Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets in his opening two rounds and past a solid test in the form of Nuno Borges in the third round, coming through a tough four-setter.

Alcaraz then benefitted from Jack Draper retiring after two sets in the fourth round, meaning he couldn't be in better shape for his biggest challenge coming up in the quarter-finals.

Novak Djokovic Form

It hasn't been an entirely convincing start to the season for Djokovic, but fans of the Serbian would have to be encouraged from his last two performances, with the possibility that the 10-time champion will continue to improve with every match.

Djokovic was understandably rusty as he bowed out of the Brisbane International in the quarter-finals against giant-serving Reilly Opelka.

The 37-year-old also started slowly at the Australian Open, dropping sets against 19-year-old wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy and qualifier Jaime Faria.

Djokovic was expected to be thoroughly tested by the Czech duo of Tomas Machac and Jiri Lehecka in the third and fourth rounds, but the 10-time AO champion was as solid as ever, ripping his opponents apart with his relentless consistency from the baseline. Djokovic prevailed in straight sets in both matches and will head into this encounter with his confidence sky-high.

Verdict

It's a blockbuster clash and I don't think it will disappoint. These two have played some of the best matches in recent memory, including the 2023 Cincinnati final and last year's Olympics thriller.

Tough to back a winner, but I think Alcaraz has the slight edge at this stage of their careers. Djokovic looked shaky in his opening two rounds and his last two opponents wilted on the big stage. Regardless, I think this match goes the distance and Djokovic should be able to win Over 19.5 games in a five-set match.
