Both players have dropped just two sets in their six matches this tournament, but I'm backing Sinner to successfully defend his Australian Open title. The Italian has been in extraordinary form for over a year now, compiling a staggering 79-6 record since the start of 2024. Sinner is gunning for his third consecutive major hardcourt title and brings a 20-match winning streak into this contest. However, the Italian likely won't have it all his own way.
Zverev has gone to five sets in each of his two previous Grand Slam finals and has enjoyed success against Sinner in the past. In fact, their last three meetings have gone to a deciding set. With this in mind, our best bet for Sunday's showpiece is Over 3.5 sets, while on current form, Sinner holds the slight edge and is favoured to come out on top in a four or five-set battle.
Head To Head
Zverev leads 4-1, but most of their matches came before Sinner transformed into the dominant force he is today. The Italian won their most-recent meeting 7-6 5-7 7-6 in the semi-finals of Cincinnati in 2024.
Jannik Sinner Form
There's not much more left to say about Sinner - the Italian is the undisputed best player in the world and comes into this Australian Open final having won 36 of his last 37 matches, including 20 on the bounce.
Sinner swept titles in Cincinnati, the US Open, Shanghai, the ATP Finals and Davis Cup to cap off a glorious 2024 and he's carried that form into the early stages of 2025.
Of course, Sinner's Australian Open title defence hasn't been without its bumps - he dropped sets to Tristan Schoolkate and Holger Rune, while he certainly looked like he was dealing with some sort of illness in the latter, but maybe that was purely down to the heat on that day.
Whatever the case, Sinner didn't drop a set in his quarter-final and semi-final victories over Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton, although he was cramping in the third set of his victory over the American on Friday night.
But, with basically 48 hours to recover, Sinner should be fit and raring to go for one last battle in order to defend a major title for the first time.
Alexander Zverev Form
Zverev is aiming to erase the heartbreak of multiple 'so near, yet so far' experiences at Grand Slams over the years, including his runner-up appearances from winning positions against Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open and Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 French Open.
The German also blew a two-set lead against Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open semi-finals last year, but Zverev has gone one step further in 2025 as he continues his pursuit of a maiden major crown.
After withdrawing from the United Cup with bicep issue, Zverev has recovered and for the most part eased into the Australian Open final over the last fortnight.
Tommy Paul probably should have raced out to a two-set lead in their quarter-final showdown, but the American got tight and Zverev stayed tough to flick the switch and prevail in four, while the 27-year-old benefitted from Novak Djokovic's retirement after just one set in Friday's semi-final.

Verdict
Can't back against Sinner - the Italian has won 36 of his last 37 matches and the last two hardcourt majors.
In saying that, Zverev will offer some fight - he's gone down in five sets in his previous two slam finals and has a good record against Sinner. Backing Over 3.5 sets and for Sinner to successfully defend his AO title.
